Try these first

Some oven problems have a simple fix. Before you book, check:

  1. Check the breaker. Many electric ovens use a double breaker that can trip on one side.
  2. Make sure the clock is set and the oven isn't in delay-start, Sabbath or control-lock mode.
  3. Use an oven thermometer to confirm whether the temperature is actually off.
  4. Look at the bake element (bottom of the oven) for visible breaks or blisters.

Still not working? Call us and we'll diagnose it properly.

Safety first. If you smell gas, don't turn anything on or off and don't use your phone inside. Leave the house and call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 (or 911) from outside. Once it's safe, we can repair the cause.

Repair or replace?

Ovens and ranges commonly last about 13–15 years. If a repair costs more than half the price of a new one and yours is past about half that lifespan, replacing may be the better value. Otherwise, repair usually wins, and we'll give you an honest recommendation either way.

Oven Repair FAQ

Why does my gas oven take forever to heat, or not heat at all?

The igniter weakens over time. It may still glow but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. It's a very common, very fixable repair.

Is it safe to use the self-clean cycle?

It works, but the extreme heat is hard on thermal fuses, door locks and control boards. On an older oven, consider cleaning by hand instead.
