Try these first
Some microwave problems have a simple fix. Before you book, check:
- Check the outlet and breaker.
- Make sure the door closes fully. A misaligned door trips the safety switches.
- Clean the grease filters on over-the-range models.
- Remove anything metal and check the waveguide cover (the small panel inside) for burn marks.
Still not working? Call us and we'll diagnose it properly.
Safety first. Never open a microwave's outer cabinet. The high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when the microwave is unplugged.
Repair or replace?
Microwaves typically last about 9 years. If a repair costs more than half the price of a new one and yours is past about half that lifespan, replacing may be the better value. Otherwise, repair usually wins, and we'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Microwave Repair FAQ
Is it worth repairing a microwave?
For over-the-range, built-in and drawer models, usually yes. They cost more and installation is involved. For a basic countertop microwave, a new one is usually cheaper than a service call.
Why does my microwave run but not heat?
The magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor has usually failed. These parts carry lethal voltage, so this is a job for a technician.
